From a distinctive setting to carefully chosen pieces, our homes say a lot about who we are. The Welcome Home series is our chance to ask inspiring people how they created a space they love.

Diana Ryu is the founder of Namu Home Goods, an LA-based company specializing in gallery-quality woodwork from Korea. She finds daily inspiration in women, so it’s no surprise that the muse behind her brand is nature herself. “She’s perfectly imperfect, and working in synchronicity with all things. She’s flexible yet demanding, tough yet fair. The wood art pieces I curate are a dance between the artist and the tree in the same way.”

A century-old oak grows in the yard of Ryu’s home, and a separate studio space houses the Namu Home Goods showroom.

She asked a spiritual advisor before she purchased the property (a perk of her previous job at goop!), and was told it would bring a lot of harvest.

“It’s been true for the past 4 years, so we call our house the Harvest House.”

What do you look for in your furniture?

Donald Judd said, “If a chair or a building is not functional, if it appears to be only art, it is ridiculous.” We very much function in this house. We sit and eat and sleep and I want to be comfortable.

What do you like about Sundays pieces?

The quality. They’re heavy, substantial, and well made. You can tell by touching them that they will last for a very long time.

What’s your favourite time of day?

I love the morning. I light incense,
the kettle is roiling on the stove and the birds are chirping. It’s very peaceful. We have a mourning dove family that lives somewhere near us, and it is a beautiful sound to wake up to. I hope they stay forever. I urge you to Youtube the sound!

What’s your favourite piece of furniture?

Sundays’ Doze Off Daybed in the Namu Home Goods studio. I take calls on it and sometimes when I need a break, I will absolutely doze off. It’s chic and so comfy.

What have you learned from running your own brand?

Namu Home Goods has become the vehicle to live a life I didn’t know was possible. It has opened up some of the most wonderful friendships and put me in touch with my motherland. The brand is always there for me, allowing me to rest if I need to. The lesson I’ve learned deeply is that the brand is not just the output, but the richness it’s brought into my life.
